As many of you may have heard, a new BC Public Health Order has come into effect requiring all on-field sports team volunteers to provide evidence of double vaccination to continue with their teams. The Provincial Health Officer issued the Order on October 25, 2021. The Order went into effect immediately and is posted at on the BC Government COVID-19 website.
Please note that the proof of vaccination requirement is not a directive of AYSC or BC Soccer. This is an Order from the BC Provincial Health Officer to all persons involved in youth sports. Further, as a condition of field rental with the Township of Langley, AYSC is required to abide by Public Health Orders as they relate to COVID-19.
We recognize that there are volunteers in our Club who may have different viewpoints about COVID-19, or this Public Health Order in particular. As a volunteer-led and volunteer-driven organization, we are extremely frustrated with the timing of this new Order, and we are faced with the difficult task of trying to make decisions in the best interests of our Club as a whole. Consequently, we have begun the necessary steps to collect this information from our volunteers, who can expect to receive more information in the next few days. We may be reaching out to teams directly to arrange additional volunteers to fill in any gaps that arise due to this new requirement.
We would like to thank all of the individuals who have volunteered with AYSC teams thus far this season but are unfortunately no longer able to continue in their roles due to this new requirement.
