Developmental (U5-U10) Updates

Coaches Needed at U5/U6 and U7/U8

We still need a few coaches to step up and volunteer before we can make teams and schedules:

  • 2 coaches needed at U5/U6 Mixed
  • 2 coaches needed at U7/U8 Mixed

If you would be willing to coach, we need to hear from you ASAP! AYSC is running a coaching clinic tomorrow night and you are welcome to attend if you are considering stepping up.

IF WE DO NOT HAVE VOLUNTEERS TO COACH, WE CANNNOT FORM TEAMS OR SCHEDULES!

Coaching at the Developmental level does not require a high degree of experience with soccer – all that’s needed is a willingness to learn and a positive attitude! AYSC supports new coaches in a variety of ways, including clinics, practice resources, and a large training DVD library.

IF WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH COACHES FOR THE SEASON, WE WILL BE FORCED TO CREATE MUCH LARGER TEAMS (less playing time for your son or daughter) OR FOLD THE AGE GROUPS ALTOGETHER.

If you would be willing to step forward and coach, please contact Angie Schonewille ASAP at ayscsoccermom@hotmail.com.

Wednesday, September 10 – Coaches’ Meeting / Skills & Drills Training

On Wednesday, September 10 COACHES ONLY will meet at Brown Park from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm for a mandatory coaches’ meeting / skills & drills training session. Experienced Club coaches will offer newer coaches some ideas for warmup, skill development, and player management.

COACHES: If you have not completed an application to coach this year, or a criminal record check for AYSC within the past 3 years, please see Applying to Coach. Criminal record checks are free and should be completed ASAP.

A Coaches’ Handbook is available on the AYSC website as a PDF.

Monday, September 15 – Optional Monday Night Clinics Begin

On Monday, September 15 AYSC will begin running optional drop-in clinics on Monday nights for parents / players who are looking for extra skill development.

  • U7/U8 – 5:00-6:00 pm
  • U9/10 – 7:00-8:00 pm

The sessions will run for about six weeks and will take place on the turf field at Aldergrove Athletic Park, 29 Avenue and 267B Street. The cost for this program is included in your registration fees.

Players will be coached by AYSC staff coaches (players do not need to wear uniforms but should wear cleats and shin guards). Team coaches are strongly encouraged to attend if possible to learn new drills and skills (please bring your balls).
