General Season Notes

Three Program Options: Recreational Soccer, LUSA Interlock, & Cascadia League

AYSC will be operating three programs for Spring 2026, depending on age. Players will be asked which stream they would like to participate in when registering. Recreational Soccer is open to all players; LUSA Interlock is open to players born 2016-2019; and the Cascadia League program is open to players born 2010-2016 subject to assessment / selection.

Jump to:

“U” means Under, i.e. U5s are players who are under 5 years of age.

Holidays

There are no AYSC activities Easter weekend / Easter Monday (April 4-6) or Victoria Day weekend (May 16-18).

Fields

AYSC’s weeknight Recreation program and training sessions for the LUSA Interlock and Cascadia League programs operate at Aldergrove Athletic Park, 27 Ave. and 269 St. behind Betty Gilbert Middle School (view Google map). LUSA Interlock weekend games are played at Willoughby Park (view Google map). Cascadia League weekend games are played at Home and Away (within the Lower Mainland / Fraser Valley, depending on division).

When Do I Get My Uniform? What Do I Wear?

All Recreational players will be provided with a t-shirt around the second week of the season; scrimmages will be played with one team wearing pinnies, to facilitate in-game temporary player shuffling to promote fair play per BC Soccer guidelines. Players can wear any shorts and socks you may have.

All LUSA Interlock and Cascadia League players will receive a jersey, shorts, and socks at the start of the season.

Shin pads are mandatory. Players need cleats or runners (not provided). AYSC operates a “have some, leave some; need some, take some” used boot exchange in the large container at the field.

Please bring a water bottle.

Recreational Soccer U5-U16 (born 2010-2021) – $125

Recreational Soccer has a focus on ‘Fitness & Fun’ and only runs on ONE WEEKNIGHT (no weekend / traveling games) at Aldergrove Athletic Park, 27 Ave. and 269 St. behind Betty Gilbert Middle School (view Google map).

The first few weeks of the season provides the Club an opportunity to assess players, recruit additional team leaders / coaches, and set balanced teams and schedules.

During this first part of the season, players will be put into informal “teams” so that our volunteer team leaders, club coaches, and players can all get to know each other; AYSC’s club coaches will be running station-based “skills and drills” with all players and volunteer team leaders / coaches, so that all players have a similar soccer experience.

Players will be assigned a team by mid-April. Some player shuffling may occur in-game to promote fair play, per BC Soccer guidelines.

Jump to:

LUSA Interlock U7-U10 (born 2016-2019) – $285

AYSC will be forming teams to play against LUSA teams (“LUSA Interlock”). LUSA Interlock has a focus on skill development and is more competitive than our Recreational program, and runs on TWO WEEKNIGHTS at Aldergrove Athletic Park, WITH A WEEKEND GAME (Saturdays for Boys, Sundays for Girls) roughly at the same time each week in the mornings at Willoughby Park (view Google map).

Jump to:

Cascadia League U10-U16 (born 2010-2016) – $300

The Cascadia League program has a greater focus on skill development and allows players to compete in a more structured league with several other local clubs. AYSC’s Cascadia League training runs on TWO WEEKNIGHTS at Aldergrove Athletic Park, WITH A WEEKEND GAME (Saturdays for Boys, Sundays for Girls) either at Home (Aldergrove Athletic Park) or Away (within the Lower Mainland / Fraser Valley, depending on division). Weekend game times may vary.

Cascadia League Assessment & Selection

AYSC does our best to place every player in an appropriate stream (e.g. Division 1, 2, 3). Players are assessed, ongoing throughout each season, to best meet their needs and provide the best experience possible while following Canada Soccer’s player development philosophy and guidelines.

We realize that not all players participate in our Fall program, and that new players join us in the Spring (and many players shuffle between sports from Fall to Spring) which makes final player evaluations and assignment challenging.

Players who are looking to be promoted from a lower division they may have previously played in (in the Fall or last Spring), will need a recommendation from their previous coach communicated to our Technical Director Cam Ward (cward@aldergrovesoccer.com) BEFORE AYSC’S CASCADIA LEAGUE REGISTRATION DEADLINE so that we can evaluate the player in more detail.

Players who have NEVER played with AYSC who want to play on a Cascadia League team should also connect with Coach Cam before the Cascadia League registration deadline.

Total Cascadia League registrations by our deadline will determine final field space allocation and final selection of players onto teams. Players not selected for a Cascadia League team will have the option of playing in the Recreational Soccer program (if born 2010-2021), or the LUSA Interlock program (if born 2016-2019).

Spring Season FAQs

The Spring season starts in April and goes to the end of June.

Spring Recreational soccer operates on weeknights only (no Saturday games), while the LUSA Interlock and Cascadia League programs have two weeknight sessions and a weekend game (Boys – Saturday, Girls – Sunday).

Weeknight sessions for the Recreational, LUSA Interlock, and Cascadia League programs are run on the turf fields at Aldergrove Athletic Park, 27 Ave. and 269 St. behind Betty Gilbert Middle School (view Google map). All LUSA Interlock weekend games are played at Willoughby Park (view Google map). Cascadia League weekend games (Saturdays for Boys, Sundays for Girls) may be played at home in Aldergrove and away in nearby communities (Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Mission, Langley).

Games are played regardless of the degree of rain. However, fields are sometimes closed by the Township of Langley due to too much water on the field. In the event of snow on the field, all games will be cancelled. If the fields are deemed unplayable, the Club will email all members as soon as the decision is known.

Your fees pay for:

  • BC Soccer fees
  • insurance
  • Township of Langley field charges for all-weather and grass fields
  • a t-shirt (Recreational) or jersey / shorts / socks (LUSA Interlock, Cascadia League)
  • referees and linespersons (LUSA Interlock, Cascadia League)
  • equipment (balls, cones, and nets)
  • field maintenance
  • player clinics
  • general Club operating costs (accounting, advertising, printing etc.)

Players need cleats or runners, shin guards, and a water bottle (not provided). AYSC operates a free soccer boot exchange at Aldergrove Athletic Park (Rubbermaid bins in the large container). If you need boots, check to see if there are a pair that will fit your player. If you have used boots to exchange or donate, please put them in a Rubbermaid bin on any session day.

The Government of Canada eliminated the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit in 2017. AYSC no longer provides tax receipts; if you pay by credit card when registering online, you will receive an electronic receipt upon submission.

See Refund Policy for complete refund policy details.

Volunteer Team Leaders / Assistant Leaders Needed

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE REQUIRE VOLUNTEER TEAM LEADERS / ASSISTANT LEADERS. As work schedules and illness sometimes prevent volunteers from being available, we aim to have a minimum of two Team Leaders for every team, to ensure continuity of direction for the players. One of the biggest challenges we have in organizing the season is that not enough volunteers step forward early enough. WE CANNOT CREATE TEAMS OR SCHEDULES UNTIL WE HAVE VOLUNTEER TEAM LEADERS, IT IS AS SIMPLE AS THAT.

See https://www.aldergrovesoccer.com/volunteer/, or please indicate on the form when registering if you are willing to volunteer.
