In a small but resplendent ceremony on March 1 at the Aldergrove Legion, the colors of the Aldergrove Elks and Royal Purple regalia merged with the blue and white of the Aldergrove Youth Soccer Club. A handful of local soccer youth, dressed in their uniforms, cheered as John Jackman, Events Chairman of the Aldergrove Elks and Archie Radiwats, Secretary of the Elks, presented AYSC President Bill Ede with a box of high-quality soccer balls and a significant contribution of $3,000 towards supporting the Aldergrove Spring League Soccer season.
“The Spring League is an opportunity for young kids in Aldergrove to come out and have fun kicking a soccer ball around in a safe and supervised weekly event from April till June,” said Bill. “Kids are organized into teams and are given uniforms but the emphasis is on fun – we have referees but otherwise the activity is more recreational than intensely competitive.”
John Jackman and the Aldergrove Elks and Royal Purple organization see this as a great opportunity to help local kids have a healthy activity after school hours. “We are a part of a national charitable fraternal organization that supports family activities. The Aldergrove Elks Lodge is particularly happy to have funded this project totally with our own local Elks Lodge and Royal Purple resources.” Another reason John Jackman was smiling tonight was that the Aldergrove Spring League plays at Philip Jackman Park, next to Parkside Elementary School, which is named after John’s father.
