In accordance with BC Soccer’s Code of Conduct for parents / guardians and coaches, we encourage all AYSC members to act as positive role models – and prioritize the well-being and safety of players above winning.
Please remember that:
- these are kids
- this is a game
- the coaches are volunteers
- the referees are human
- this is not the World Cup
Parents and spectators are expected to foster a positive, supportive environment by cheering encouragingly and respecting all officials and opponents. Positivity only please – no coaching from the sidelines or negative comments towards referees or players.
Coaches are expected to maintain high standards of behavior, showing respect for players, parents / guardians, officials, opponents, and the rules of the game.
Key field conduct rules include:
Bench Access: Only team officials named on the official team list (e.g., Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager) and registered players are permitted in the technical area or on the team bench. To ensure player focus and safety, spectators must stay in designated viewing areas and are absolutely not allowed on / at the team benches or within 2 meters of the field of play.
Field Entry: Coaches must never enter the field of play without the referees permission, typically only for assessing or treating an injured player.
Interactions with Officials: Coaches must accept match officials’ decisions without public criticism and ensure that all bench personnel and parents / guardians / family members of your players do the same.
Rule of Two: All interactions between coaches and individual minor players must be open and observable, ideally in the presence of another adult.
