‘BC Soccer requires that all Class 4 through Class 1 referees be registered each year. This is mainly for insurance and educational purposes. Failure to register with BCSA will negate you from officiating in any sanctioned games.
Please be aware that, if a referee misses one (1) year of registration, he/she needs to supply proof of registration in the year previous, attend a refresher clinic within one (1) year of the new registration and they can be registered. If it is more than a year, then you must challenge the exam that is one class lower, pass and attend a refresher and then register. (For example, if a Class 2 referee, who was registered last year, decides to take this year off and not register, then they MUST register and then attend a refresher clinic next year. If they same referee fails to register for 2 or more years, then he/she must challenge the Class 3 (in
this case) exam, pass and attend a refresher clinic. The Class 2 referee is now re-licensed as a CLASS 3 referee. If they wish to obtain their Class 2 again, they must attend a full Class 2 course and pass the exam.)
The cost to register for Class 4 referees is now $50.00
(as of Aug.1, 2007). Class 3 through Class 1 shall remain at $50.00.
As of Aug. 1, 2007, ALL referees in the province of BC shall now be required to register with BCSA on one cycle. This cycle shall be from April 1st to March 31st of the following year. This means for all referees in the lower mainland that our current registration shall be extended to March 31st, 2008. After that, you will have to re-register on April 1st. You are able to register online at BCSoccer.net, or through your Head Referee of AYSC. Attendance at an Annual Refresher Clinic shall remain as before whereby you will have to attend one prior to officiating for the season (ie. In
the fall or late summer).
First time referees who register, they are entitled to one free assessment (cost is normally $20.00). An assessment is a must if you wish to progress any higher than Class 4. The cost of registering also includes an annual refresher clinic (4hrs), and a new copy of the Laws of the Game.
Currently, there is no requirement for Class 5 referees to register with BCSA, though they are encouraged to attend a Class 5 Refresher Clinic (FOR AYSC ONLY!). This is free to the returning Class 5 referees.
Please keep in mind that this is different from registering for referee courses!’
Please Note: Effective 2006-07 season, any un-registered referee, who is actively reffing and who has attended the annual refresher clinic, who has failed to register as a referee with BC Soccer by Oct 31st, shall have their registration fee paid for them by AYSC and the cost deducted from their first paycheck.
Please check back later in September for possible updates!
